This is a quick reminder that the University has funds available to pay for gold Open Access (OA) for journal articles arising from RCUK projects. This funding is to pay publishers’ Article Processing Charges (APC).
Gold OA means that your article is made publicly accessible on the publisher’s website immediately upon publication. This potentially increases likelihood that people from within academia and beyond will find, cite and use your research.
Gold OA is particularly important for articles arising from RCUK funded projects in cases where the publisher (e.g. Elsevier) insists on a restrictive license (e.g. CC-BY-NC-ND) if the gold route to OA is not taken. It is also important when the publisher imposes embargo period that is over 6 months for STEM subjects and 12 months for arts, humanities and social sciences subjects.
To access this funding, please complete this short form and send it to openaccess@port.ac.uk. (If you do not have time to look up the metrics required on the form, just send it without them and we’ll look them up in the Library for you).
