Tuesday 5th June saw the University of Portsmouth open its doors to business at two major engagement events.

In the morning, the University held its inaugural University to Business event (#U2B2018) where we opened our doors to our business community. The event arose from the recognition that we have a key role to play in supporting the growth of productivity in our Region and to do this, we need to be working closely with businesses of all sizes, collaborating with them on a range of activities, projects, research and development.

With this in mind, U2B offered over 30 different workshops/sessions, from across all 5 faculties, to businesses to come and explore our expertise, facilities and equipment, and find out how their business could benefit from working with us. Lisa Rhodes, Director of Continued Professional Development at the University, explained,

“We wanted to engage with new organisations who perhaps had never considered working with us, or didn’t know how to make this happen, along with those we were perhaps already engaged with, but wanted to broaden their experience with us and raise their awareness of other areas that could benefit their organisation.”

In the evening, the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries hosted a Big Networking Night to showcase it’s Graduate Show. The event had a fantastic level of attendance, with around 100 guests from across the Creative Industries coming along to enjoy the Show, as well as the fantastic music, food and networking opportunities.

Collaboration Manager Pippa Bostock said,

“The event provided the perfect opportunity for our partners – regionally and nationally – to have the opportunity to meet each other, opening the door to many exciting future collaborations.”

Exhibitions on the night included Architecture, Fashion, Photography and animation, with interactive Computer Game demonstrations also taking place.

Plans are already underway for next years Graduate Show, and we hope that you will be able join us for the CCI Graduate Show Big Networking Night in 2019.
