Professor Gordon Blunn and Joe Shoebridge, on behalf of the Health & Wellbeing Theme, are excited to invite you to the first Hub meetings.
The Hubs will bring together researchers from across the institution with shared interests in healthcare technologies and mental health and wellbeing, from prosthesis to big data, biofilms to home adaptations, ageing well to substance abuse, exercise for wellbeing to mental health in childhood, and everything in between. Each month the Hubs will hold a seminar including a keynote talk from an external speaker alongside a related talk from a UoP academic. These talks will stimulate conversations and will help facilitate future collaborations.
Healthcare Technologies Hub
The first meeting will take place on 3pm on Wednesday 31st October in St Andrew’s Court, room 4.09.
For the launch meeting of this Hub we will hear from Simon Fraser, Associate Professor of Public Health from the University of Southampton, regarding his work focusing on multi-morbidity, treatment burden and capacity. Dr Fraser will be joined by Ravina Barrett, from our own School of Pharmacy, who will be informing us on her future research plans and recent application for National Institute of Health Research Funding.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub
The first meeting will take place at 3pm on Wednesday 7th November in the Eldon building, room 1.09.
For the launch meeting of this Hub Professor Sarah Stewart-Brown, from the University of Warwick, will speak about her contribution to the creation of the Warwick-Edinburgh Wellbeing Scale. Joining Prof Stewart-Brown will be Dr Karen Pilkington, from the UoP School of Health Sciences and Social Work, with her talk entitled ‘Measuring Social Prescribing: Where to Start?’.
It’s a pity the event on 32st clashes with the University’s Black Writers event

Thank you for your message, unfortunately it is impossible for us to schedule these events such that they do not clash with something else going on at the University of Portsmouth. The Hubs will be held monthly so there will plenty of opportunities to attend.
