We are delighted to announce a pilot scheme for short term visiting scholars as part of a wider initiative to enhance our research and innovation environment and culture and to deliver our strategic ambitions for R&I. The scheme will pay for up to 12 visiting scholars to spend 2 weeks at the University of Portsmouth in June/July 2022 to work and interact with research groups, centres and teams. The outcomes we are looking for are: 1). Developing new or enhancing existing partnerships, with a preference for Global South partners in areas of strategic importance, 2). Learn about different approaches to R&I, 3). Create mutual benefit from cultural exchange.
Visiting Scholars could come from industry, public/third sector, government or academia.
Those seeking to host a scholar will need to make the case that the visiting scholar fits with their local/faculty/theme plans and under the wider University vision for globally impactful research. Hosts should prepare a programme of local activities that look to build the relationship and advance the collaboration in line with their strategic aims. There will also be a programme of group activities including a symposium, and opportunities for UoP to learn from the activities/approaches of the visiting scholars.
The individuals chosen will need to have sufficient agency and capacity in their home setting to be able to help develop a R&I partnership or collaboration. Please consider the University’s commitment to Race Equality Charter and Athena Swan when planning your applications and identifying your short term visiting scholars.
Please submit your applications using this form by 4pm on 5th May.
This scheme is supported by the R&I Leadership Group (which includes ADRs, Theme Directors, Innovation Leads, RIS management and the PVC (Research, Innovation and External Relations).
