I wanted to make you aware of the recent publication of a report sponsored by Wellcome, UK Research and Innovation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which concluded that open sharing had a positive impact on the global pandemic response, alongside efforts to collaborate internationally and the availability of advanced research infrastructures. In particular, open sharing of genomic viral data allowed the prompt development of vaccines, and the broader availability of publications and preprints helped inform policy in real time.
Key findings and the full report can be found here.
