UKRI have announced the next round of their Future Leaders Fellowship scheme.

This is the 7th round of this prestigious and highly competitive scheme. UKRI has awarded almost 500 fellowships under this scheme between 2018 and 2021 and awardees are listed in this database. The University has supported a number of applications over the years and has been successful on one occasion.

The scheme is open to researchers in academia and non-academic organisations, in the UK and globally. Applicants must “Be recognised to be of the highest standard relative to their career stage and on a trajectory to become world-class“.

It is a scheme for early career researchers and innovators who are either looking to establish or transition to independence and/or developing their own original and ambitious plans within a commercial setting.

Applicants who have already achieved research or innovation independence (for example, by securing funding aimed at this career stage, or by already managing their own significant programme of work within a business) should not apply. Senior academics and innovators are not permitted to apply.

The University is capped at making 3 applications in this round and therefore has put in place a process to decide on those applications. Please read about the process here and use this template for making an internal expression of interest.

Any queries (internal or external applicants) can be sent to RIS@port.ac.uk.
