FoodCiTi is a research centre with a particular interest in interdisciplinary projects about food, health and sustainability. We are researchers with a diverse range of interests, publications and research projects. FoodCiTi has successfully hosted two previous international conferences.

The event will involve different kinds of stakeholders and will combine academic presentations and papers with talks by organisations and individuals who care about food, sustainability and the environment.

We welcome abstracts for academic papers, oral and poster presentations, as well as food-related projects. Oral presentations will be grouped into panels and limited to 15 minutes plus questions.

Topics for all modes of presentation can include, but are not limited to:

  • Food and the environment
  • Health and food issues
  • Cultural and media representations of food and the environment
  • Psychology of food and drink
  • Food security
  • Food recycling
  • Local food producers
  • Food and Agri-economics
  • Community food production
  • Environmental food projects
  • Food writing
  • Vegan and/or organic production of food
  • Supermarkets, Farm Shops and/or independent shops
  • Smallholdings, allotments and self-sufficiency
  • Historical and heritage approaches to food and the environment

We welcome proposals for papers, presentations and posters from researchers and from people with experience in the food industries. Proposals should be around 200 words, and are to be sent to laurel.forster@port.ac.uk by 5 March 2023. Participation will be confirmed by the end of March.

Alternatively, if you are a food producer (or other organisation) and would like a stall to sell your food or promote your organisation please reply with your suggestion and include details about your organisation.

The conference will be an in-person event. Travel and any accommodation costs will have to be covered by the participants. We are currently applying for funding to support the event, but there will also be a small registration fee. Lunch will be available from our local producers’ food stalls, teas and coffees will be provided.
