The UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships: round 8 scheme has been announced and opens on the 27th March with a deadline of 4th July 2023. The University is allowed to lead on three proposals and therefore we are operating a managed call process. This process will select 2 applicants as one spot has already been reserved for our back-up candidate from round 7.

This is the 8th round of this prestigious and highly competitive scheme. UKRI has awarded almost 500 fellowships under this scheme between 2018 and 2021 and awardees are listed in this database. The University has supported a number of applications over the years and has been successful on one occasion.

The scheme is open to researchers in academia and non-academic organisations, in the UK and globally. Applicants must “Be recognised to be of the highest standard relative to their career stage and on a trajectory to become world-class“.

An information session/workshop for interested applicants (covering the call and support in bid preparation available from RIS) will be held virtually on the 14th March (2-3pm). Please email grants@port.ac.uk to be sent a video link to the session. The session will be recorded and made available on the RIS intranet, via the Fellowships page, for those who are unable to attend.

All candidates will need to register their interest in applying to this scheme by 28th March via an email to grants@port.ac.uk. A simple email to register interest is sufficient at this stage. Only those who register will be able to submit an application to the internal selection process.

The internal selection process will consist of a single stage with a panel considering the full Case for Support and CV/Outputs documents with a deadline of 11th May. The internal process is open to internal and external candidates.

Any queries (internal or external applicants) can be sent to grants@port.ac.uk.
