You may be aware of the national and international push towards Open Access (OA) publishing for research outputs. As Hefce’s OA policy came into effect 1st April 2016, it is vital that all research‐active staff are familiar with these requirements, as this may influence publication choices. Put simply:
To ensure that a journal or conference article complies with Hefce’s OA policy and will be eligible for inclusion in the next REF, the author must upload the output to Pure as soon as the work is accepted for publication. Authors will need to enter the full date that the article was accepted for publication.
Please find a flyer attached, which explains OA in more detail, the support available to you and what you must do to meet the University, Hefce and other funder requirements (e.g. Research Councils, Wellcome Trust).
To find out more, please sign up to an ‘Open Access Publishing and REF’ workshop on the Researcher Development Programme. Alternatively, further help can be found on the Open Access website or by contacting openaccess@port.ac.uk
