What is Pitch to Peers?
In an attempt to increase the success rate of funding applications the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) have introduced demand management procedures. At the University of Portsmouth this means that we are restricted to submitting only a single proposal for each standard (including New Investigator) application round. Application deadlines are in January and July each year. This restriction will stay in place until UoP reaches a success rate of at least 20% over the previous 6 rounds.
Pitch to Peers is an open meeting where all the PIs who wish to submit a proposal for the upcoming NERC round have the opportunity to present (pitch) their proposal to their peers. A selection panel made up of UoP researchers that have experience of sitting on research council selection panels will select two of the pitches to go ahead for further intensive development. Closer to the deadline, these two proposals will be reviewed though the UoP Peer Review College and also by an external expert, before the final proposal that will be submitted to NERC will be chosen. All members of the UoP community are welcome to come to the Pitch to Peers and see the proposals, ask questions and provide feedback. Researchers thinking of applying to future rounds are strongly encouraged to attend.
